How does a Snowman get to work?

By icicle.... ( that's for you Uncle Dave)

Warm coats are fine, but to really see how useful they are you need to get out and about. Murphy & I were really excited when we had more snow overnight. We went up to our favourite park for a bit run around in the snow. There was lots of the stuff , really deep in some places and we had to use our natural ability to spring just to get around. I could still smell that there were loads of rabbits around somewhere and being the inquisitive chap that I am, I just had to go looking. Here I am in action.

Jumpers for dogs

Well actually these ones are called Tankies and were delivered on Thursday from those very nice people at Equafleece.  We know they are very nice because Mum had to call them to order the right size as neither Murphy nor I were keen to stand still long enough to be measured.  Anyway, they arrived and of course we had to try them on straight away.

Now they are designed to keep us warm when we are in the car on cold days or after a wet walk, so they were a bit too warm in the house.  So (thankfully) we were allowed out into the garden to see how they looked in the cold and snow.

I think we look rather smart!

Scenes from a window

How pretty everywhere looked when we got up this morning.

We are hoping Dad will come home today to enjoy the snow with us.  He was away working last week and stayed away over the weekend because he had snow where he was.  I hope he didn't have too much fun without us.

Yes, this is me standing on the chair to looking out of the front window, and yes I always get told off for doing it.

We don't live near the road, so not much goes past the window except a few birds and Ajax and Rodney who live opposite.  They are very cheeky and sit on our front lawn in the summer which makes me bark at them.  Yes, you guessed it they are cats!  We've never met nose to nose, but that doesn't stop them from teasing me and me from barking at them.

So after all the excitement of snow wears off, it's time to put some serious thought into how I can lie on my bed (like a good boy) but still be quite close to Murphy while he eats his breakfast.

Solution: move your bed a bit nearer

Question: where's my breakfast? I've already eaten it!

Winter Walks

We love them!  All that snow to bounce about in, it's great fun and even better when you can share it with friends.
On Friday we met up with Fergus and two new friends Boris and Wilberforce (that's them in the photo with their coats on) and had a great walk in the woods.

Very sad news

It was the greatest of sadness that we learned this week that our very dear friend Duggie has died.

I have known Duggie for all of my life and was always so pleased to see him when we met for walks, although it has to be said he wasn't always too keen on receiving my attention!  We have had many lovely walks with him, but  I think the beach was one of his favourite places to go.

Duggie was almost 14 years old and has lived with Aunty Debbie and Uncle Dave since he was about 2.  All our love and thoughts are with them and the rest of their boys and girls.

It's getting warmer

We've just got back from a walk in the fields and I am reliably informed the temperature has soared to -5.

Warmer?  Well it was -8 when we went out this morning!

Thankfully it's really toasty in the house.

Have you had any?

We've had a very little bit and it makes the garden look quite pretty even at 7am!

Yesterday we went for a walk in a tiny bit of snow but still managed to come home with lumps of the stuff stuck to our feathers.  It makes it very hard to walk when you've got  a snowball attached to your foot.

Mum took this one of me this afternoon

and I have a couple of comments I'd like to make.  Once again she's taken a photo of my bottom, which she would say is my fault for moving.  Secondly, could I point out that I don't usually wear my coat to go out into the garden, but we had just come in from being in the car and I was wearing it there.  I am a gundog after all and even we have to keep warm on days like these!

Murphy's Revenge

Last night we had a surprise visit from Tigger who stopped off on his way home from spending the New Year at his place in France.  His Mum was a bit concerned that he hadn't eaten his dinner earlier in the evening, so she brought it into the house for him to munch on whilst she had a cup of coffee.

Now who would prefer to eat their dinner (biscuit and sightly smelly pilchards by this point) or charge about in the garden having fun?  Tigger chose the latter, so while I distracted him playing chase on the lawn (it was tricky in the dark) Murphy tucked into his dinner!  Tigger didn't seem to mind at all, he was having too much fun with me!

Murphy seemed to enjoy the extra meal, but although it made his breath a bit fishy, eating greyhound biscuit doesn't seem to have made him run any faster.  Perhaps he needs a bit more ....
